Hey all, I am wondering, I know that oscars are susceptible to getting HITH, but I am not sure of the signs. He has this white spot on the top, just above where you would say his "head". Now the spot hasn't grown any or shown any signs of what hole in the head disease looks like that I have seen on here. I have been doing weekly water changes and keeping the temp around 80 degrees. Anything else I should be doing? Oh, and one more thing, that fish has not let up on eating or dominating the tank so he's acting very normal to me. Thanks!

p.s. - I will have pics of him up tomorrow so all can see what I am talking about........thanks.:headbang2

How long has it been there? usually white spots mean ich, but it spreads all over the fish. One spot is probably something else, maybe an alien parasite? Perhaps just an injury.

Pics will help. Could be an injury, you may want to add some aquarium salt to the water and bump the temp up a couple of degrees. That will help things along whether it is an injury or a parasite. Good luck and do a search for "oscar Ich" and "oscar Hith" on MFK and look at some pics, that should help you diagnose your problem

if its not growing, and there are no other white spots on his body, its probably just that he lost a scale in a scuffle with another fish. You said he dominates, its possible one of your other fish challenged him. if that is the case, it should heal pretty quickly. Whatever the case, do frequent water changes (with aquarium salt and stresscoat), and post pics for a more accurate diagnosis.

yeah it looks like he lost some scales there, its not getting any bigger and there is no other spots or anything on him. i will do a water change tomorrow and put some salt in there and try that out.....pics will be here tomorrow!

He'll be fine. just keep clean water, feed him well, and try to give him a lot of uninterupted darkness at night. Rest is good for healing humans, its gotta be good for a healling fish. should reduce stress, at least.

and post pics. it could be a disease or parasite, but an injured scale is more common.

the younger the fish, the faster it should grow back.

my GT was missing a scale a while ago. I worried about it until it healed in like 3 days.

my fish have this all the time, especially noticable on darker fish, maybe caused by other fish or bumping into something

yeah that is what i am thinking, he is acting very normal since he has been in there, that spot isn't getting any bigger and like I said earlier, it looks like he lost a couple scales in that spot, maybe on my clay pot in there or a couple of rocks I have in there. My apologies to all about the pictures........my camera is acting up, it won't turn on even when I put new batteries in.........for all of you out there with a 19 yr old daughter who you lend your camera to..........DON'T DO IT!!..........LOL......they touch it, and now it doesn't work. When I can get it working, I'll show the pics.
