Oscar with feeders in tank

If you bred the feeders yourself, probably not.

What is the main diet of your oscar?

Feeders can transmit parasites, and ick. Its best you dont feed them to your fish. Oscars will take pellets, it might take a little time to coax them to it. You also want your water to be pure, feeders are a bad idea.

meaning he doesn't eat them all and leaves them swimming around? or meaning you are constantly putting them? like that's all you feed him? (just for clarification purposes)

Is it because you added some and the Oscar just hasn't eaten them all or is it because you continually add them after they have been eaten? Most people will discourage feeders because of their reputation for carrying diseases. Some gut-loaded feeders are good if you raise them and make sure that they are healthy. Sometimes for some strange reason, fish will ignore feeders for a long time even for life. There are many people on this forum that have added feeders to their tank that ended up being life-long guests because nothing would eat them.

I am continually feeding him the feeders sometimes goldfish and sometimes rosie reds. I put them in a small breeder tank to try and make sure they don't have any diseases. I also change up his diet between pellets and goldfish... he seems to like goldfish more so thats what I feed him. He always has goldfish in his tank with him and I was wondering if it was a good idea to feed him at certain times during the day rather than just having the feeders in with him all day.
thanks

Why would it be bad? whats your reasoning? are you trying to say... your bad? your a bad man cos you get your Oscar to kill stuff?

At the end of the day, if you don't feed it a staple of pellets, it will die.

Pellets = Food
Live Food/Frozen Food = Treats

Lets not make this a ethical debate about feeding live foods,

And you can feed an oscar a diet that isn't a staple of pellets and they will live long healthy lives, so your statement is false.

However, that diet would not be store bought feeders, which have a very very good chance of introducing parasites to your oscar.

Wtf? seriously? lol it wont die if its not given a staple of pellets. pellets are definately healthier but theyre not the exclusive diet that oscars can live off. And i dont even get what your trying to say with that first part.

To the OP, i highly recommend feeding pellets, and if your still going to feed live i wouldnt have them in the tank constantly because your oscar might get pretty fat.
