hi. i'm having a hard time finding anything out about this. my oscar has a large [maybe about one-eighth to one-sixth of an inch across] blackish spot on his body, on the fleshy part just before his tail fin starts. i'm having a hard time getting a picture...sometimes he seems to like getting his pic taken, sometimes he just won't hold still. right now he's doing the "not holding still" part. i can see it from both sides, but one side looks worse, so the other side it might just be showing through to the other side since it's a thin part of his body [again, it's just before his tail fin starts]. it's black, maybe a very slightly blue or green black. it does seem to look "eaten away". like, it looks like his body goes in a tiny bit in that circle. i only just noticed it. i don't remember it being there yesterday, but i worked all day today, so this morning i didn't look at them for very long. it reminds me very slightly of the black spot mold that you might get on bread sometimes. can someone help me? i'll still be trying to find it, but if someone else might be able to help it'll be appreciated
thanks,
jessica

why can't i edit these posts? anyway, there also seems to be many smaller spots on both sides of his face as well...it's difficult for me to look at them..the light on my tank is a little smaller than what it should be [the bulb in the light that goes on that tank is dead and i haven't been able to get a new one yet], and the water is that pond looking water due to the pieces of wood in there [one was put in at my last water change. i soaked it in hot water for about a week, but that didn't get rid of everything]

Something about your water perameters doesnt add up. Pics would help. If you cant, Do your research on bacterial and fungal infections. Unlikely parasitic.

i couldn't get pictures...i'll try again.. what's wrong with my parameters? i dunno..that's what the tests said.. i added some plants about a week ago and since then my nitrites and nitrates have been going down.. :/

how long as your tank been running ? u should have 0 ammonia 0 nitrites. My oscar has black around his fin tips, he is a lemon oscar. he may be getting ammonia burns, i have seen that. with no pic where just guessing

okay, i got a few...they're not very good though. it would be easier if he were a little bigger. the colors in the pics are a little off from real life. you can see the color of the spots a little better in person than in these pics. like i said, the black is maybe a slightly blue or green black.

best pic. you can see the darker small spots in somewhat of a line in front of his gills there. the spot on his tail is the darker one further back [obviously]

again, you can see the spot on the tail. the spots on his head are not as easy to see in this one

you can see the tail spot pretty well in this one. in this one you can best see the color difference between his normal colors and the spot

this tank has been up for..three months? i think it's about three months. i thought the ammonia levels were pretty low...i'm due for a water change [my last one was a week ago], but i didn't think it was very high..
