Oscar with white poop..

Hi,

I bought a little Tiger Oscar about a week ago. Today I noticed some white poop hanging out of the little guy. Does poop in the picture look normal or im I dealing most likely with Internal parasites? Thanks

my initial guess is hexamita. Soak his food in metro, and dose the tank with the same.

Can cause HITH, which oscars are prone to.
 
NLS sells a medicated food that could also help if its hexamita, its called NLS hex shield.
 
Shoot Man I'm having horrible luck lately.I just bought a fish online and it has Ick so im currently treating the tank for ich with Para guard, salt and raised temp, I'm also using Triple sulfa to make the paraguard less harsh on my catfish . So soak the oscars food in metro and your also saying to treat the whole tanks water with metro as well? Is hexamita contagious? Can I use Metro with Paragurad and triple sulfa? Thanks so much Been a rough patch. I just got over a case of bad velvet and know this crap.

By the way water is good: 0-0-20 ,temp83. ph 8.2
 
Seperate the oscar. Paraguard is a reducing agent and can effect the effectiveness of other meds. Plus never a good idea to mix meds that don't have a history of being mixed.

some people say it is contagious others say no. Go with yes it is (I think its highly contagious being a parasitic disease) and treat the whole tank after you get that ich outbreak under control. That shouldn't take long with paraguard and salt.

Okay Ill get the oscar out of there and treat separately. Yeah hopefully the ick will be gone in 5 days or so and ill treat the tank with metro. Would you use something like General cure that has prazi as well or will metro be good enough. Thanks
 
I would use straight metro and if you want, as a decent preventative, dose with prazi pro as well. I wouldn't use the general cure for this. Hex can take a fish fast, better to get the metro in his system now and like I said you can use prazi with it safely but it isn't exactly effective against hex.

I use prazi pro as a preventative med on all my tanks because it doesn't harm any fish or plants or the bio filter, but its mainly for internal parasites such as tapeworms and it has a moderate effect on gill flukes.

Basically what Im saying is focus on the metro but adding prazi wont hurt anything.

Another option, and this one has serious mixed reviews, is to also dose the tank with epsom salts. Its an effective laxative for fish and will help pass any dead or dying parasites that may be inside your oscar. I've heard some people talk of using it with hexamita but I personally never have. Again though its something else you can use with the meds and it won't harm anything.

Definitely treat the tank with some Prazi. To treat the Oscar for IPs soak some pellets in raw garlic if you can't get the Metro this is great at acidifying the intestinal track. Also as a substitute for straight Metro if you can't find it use API General cure Metro/Prazi mix. Dose the tank as per instructions withholding one package. Use the last package as a food soke. In a small cup use just enough water to cover the food and pure the contents of the package in with the food, let this soak for 15 mins and dump into the tank.

So ive moved the Oscar into a ten gallon tank. I've soaked some pallets in with metro and feed him. He's still eating :)
So when you say treat the tank, are you talking about the main tank or the oscars temporary tank?? I can do both but as predatorkeeper87 advised, I should wait to treat the main tank until I'm finished treating the ick? Will I be okay waiting several days before treating the main tank? I feel confident I will be successful treating the oscar in the separate tank. I'm really worried about my fish in the main tank though.
