75g is best i got one in a 40g and its only been 6 months and he is 3/4 the width of the tank! But good thing i got a new 75g with 2 aqua 110's to help keep the water clean. If you ever see the nasty Oscar defaecate its disgusting and it goes all over and clouds the tank until the filter cleans it out. The worst if you feed lots of crickets the poo from the Oscar will be all wings and the exoskeleton of the cricket and it all floats to the top!

if i get one i was thinking about feeding it bloodworms or pellets something like that

thats fine.

Pellets are a necessity. They should be his staple food.
Then you can add things like bloodworms, earthworms, crickets, shrimp. etc. as supplements.

but if you plan on getting one for your 55.. be forwarned.. they are increadibly messy. they are complete slobs and should be cleaned up after at LEAST once a week in a tank that size.

you'll need a lot of filtration and water changes.

you can keep an oscar in a 55 for at least a year and half. in the first year they will grow to about 9 inches or so then their growth slows down. you will of course have to do water changes at least onceor twice a week and you should have enough fitration for a tank twice as big as what you have.
for diet you should feed a good quality pellet and supplement with shrimp, krill, earthworms and crickets to name a few.

optimal filtration will filter your water volume 3x p/hour. i do water changed every 3 days in my 40 because he is so messy (im waiting for my 80g to cycle)
in the wild 70% of the Oscars diet are insects

i might do the same get two filters for my tank , but i found a cheap website selling ThermoFilters so i might get one of then and it might be cheap buying a thermfilter, i will do some research on it.

if a get a bigger width do you think i can keep the oscar in the tank longer with no tankmates.
