No it doesn't silly idea-most fish are farm raised and all come from basically the same farm raised water. It has to do more with size and temperment.

A lot of people for example on this site mix loads of fish that come from diff. areas of the world. For example I saw a tank with a Buttikefori, Tigershovelnose cat, Pacu, Clown Knife, and a Bichir all in the same tank-these fish range from South America, Asia, and Africa.

i know what u lot mean about mixing america and africa and i do agree that they should not be mixed, but like you said shamrock people do it and have succsess i have seen it and have done it years ago when i first started malawi me not knowing much added a parrot fish with them and it was fine in there for years, there is going to be lots of rolled eyes on here readoing this lol
i guess its a trial and error and up to my mate if he keeps it or not

thanks for ur replies

My 15 inch Oscar would eat my Africans so I would not attempt to put Charlie with my Mbuna's or Peacocks. They may co habitat but can't have complete comfortable conditions if one likes low ph and soft water and the other likes high ph and hard water. You can live in the Artic if you are from Florida but not be happy. I love my fish and try as hard as possible to make them comfortable. Not take a south american fish and force him to live in african water conditions. I also have never had a hap the size of my oscar. He is close to 3 Lbs. Just my opinion.

The only time this would work... malawi and oscar is if it is a full size malawi N.Venutus or another malawi cichlid that gets this large...my male is 9 inches.. but i think only if there was one or two big malawi... not a bunch because they could stress the oscar so bad he would get HITH or sick from stress..and of course you cannot add normal youngsters since they would be eaten by the oscar.. my venustus was with my oscar for over a year... in a 125gal... simply because i needed to separate the venustus from the female.. and give her a rest from breeding... but i would not purposely do this combination..it just does not go together in many ways...

Red Devil-I basically just stated what you just said.
Mbunas and Peacocks don't make good tankmates for Oscars. However, some of the larger more predatory Hap's do-size and temperment are similar.
