hey all!

I'm new to the forums, my name is Tim but prefer Timmo as its my nickname.

building one of those acrylic tanks with my house mate to accomodate a pair of Red Tiger Oscars and a pair of Australian Barramundi.

before I go ahead with this plan, should i be getting enough acrylic to make two tanks, one for O's and one for Barras? or make one big one big enough for both species to live in together?

anyone here keep these two fish together?

just wanna know the compatibility before i rush into anything lol.

any advice would be great, and anything about tank size is irellivant as i can easily maintain a very large tank, as I have the space and cash ready.

a tank size in gallons would be a good guideline though if you have any reccomendations. :)

cheers!

I hope you realise the potential max size of barramundi. If you do, you cant go wrong with compatibility issues. There will be enough space for everyone.

Think a minimum tank size of 16ftx6ftx4ft. If you dont think that is possible, just click the 'fishtankwebcam' link in the users signature above me and enter 'ilovefish' as the username, and 'ptcptc' as the password.

could work fine for a while both fish aren't aggressive but the barr would out grow the oscar pretty quickly not only do they grow faster but even at adult size the oscar is only around 15'' it would stand a chance against a 6 foot barrimundi

so yes eventually you would need two tanks the oscars would only need a tank around 125 gallon 6'x24''x18'' that would be good a barrimundi would need a much larger tank and i don't think any body has ever bred barras

Not really. Its quite common to catch some 5 footers a bit north of me. Whatever the size, its an incredibly powerful fish.

and it was perfectly normal to catch 7 foot pimas where I used to live in brasil, but i don't go around bursting other people's bubbles. anyways, that was for johnptc, no need to be an *** ;)

okay guys thanks, at the moment the barras are juveniles about 5" - 6" bought them as fingerlings. and the oscars are about 7". so with the right size tank, compatibility isn't an issue with these two fish? or still need to separate when the barras get real large?
