Oscars and Barramundi : Compatibility

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No kidding? You should have a lot of time, money, and devotion to pull this off. I love your idea of your approach to this. What else will go into the 8x4x4?

the 8x4x4 will house a pair of oscars, 1 common plecostomus, and 4 clown loaches.

the 16x6x4 is now only a 16x5x4 but hey thats all i can allow for in height.

in the 16x5x4 it will house 2 barramundi, and a 13" common pleco.

there'll be some dust in the wallet after this...

16x5x4 means Length x depth (front to back measurements) x and height. Still a kickass tank.

With the 8x4x4, you have an incredible amount of room for other fish. You may also want to have another 8 or so clown loaches. The more the merrier. They also look the best and act great when kept in larger numbers.

Are you sure that you only want 2 oscars, a plec and 4 clowns in the 8x4x4?

well it will be much easier to keep clean.

but i may invest in a few more clown loaches.

nice to have an arowana in there but not quite big enough lol.

Your tank is more then big enough for an arowana. I wouldnt suggest a Jardini, but if you fork out enough money, a silver arowana is for you.

possibilities...

16x5x4 is a long way off as the barras are still juveniles. mid next year roughly.

the 8x4x4 will be finished by the end of this year ready for "my" new house once i get out of my parents house. lol :P

to the 8x4x4 i would add more clown loaches you can NEVER have to many of those and i would add something else mabye some tinfoil barbs for movement or keep it the way it is it you wouldn't have to change the water very often

i would add an arowana FOR SURE a 8x4x4 would last an aro a very long time they aren't aggressive as we'll they would work more then fine with the oscars get a silver aro they get the biggest at around 4 feet max in aquariums or if you wan't it to stay in the 8x4x4 for ever get a black aro they look alot better to any aro would last a long long time in a 8x4x4 and if they ever did out grow our tank or seem a little cramped why not put them with the barras ? wouldn't have problems there to

an arowana would look awesome cruising around the top of an 8 foot tank with oscars in the mid section. clown loaches on the bottom would give you a really nice range through the whole height of the tank im my opinion. keep in mind that barramundi are predatory fish by nature, not aggresive. if they see something which they can fit in their mouth, or sometimes even if they cant fit it in their mouth, it will be considered prey. i think that watching a barramundi stalk its prey is one of the coolest things i have ever seen! good luck with the project
