oscars and bichirs

I think doing an african theme would be cool... that's what I'm doing. Bichirs, African brown knife, Leopard Bushfish, African Butterflyfish. It's going to be awesome!

Hello,

first ... some keepers do have no problems with the combination cichlids / bichirs, other do have massive problems ...

A bit risky, isn't it?

I've made my own mistake in combining cichlids (Jack dempseys) and bichirs ... my ornate killed all of them (12) - also my two biggest ones (over 6 inch long). The ornate was 12 inches long to this time! He killed them like a shark!

On the other side i've heard from a keeper that breeding cichlids made massive problems with his bichirs - almost natural ... when cichlids are breeding they are aggressive against their tankmates ...

When it works - okay. But if it do not work - then you will have a problem and your fish will have a problem! You have to choose ...

Greetings

Uwe

Actually I completely forgot that I also do have 2 smaller senegals with 2 oscars, 1 gold saum, red devil, green severum, and a flowerhorn.

There is also 6 corys and 1 common pleco and a gold nugget pleco in there along side 7 giant danios and 2 silver dollars. Any signs of agression, only when the senegals see the corys eating on the pellets they get fed. And with that they only nip on their fins.

i have a senegal with 2 chilclids. (oscar and a firemouth) and no problems. the firemouth and the senegal lay under the same peice if driftwood.

I keep 2 oscars with 5 bichirs, all over 1'

that's weird. In my experience, bichirs are like rocks for other fish. They are there, they aren't bothered, and occasionally the other fish check them out for curiosity, but leave them alone after 2 seconds of investigation

they are usually okay together, just make sure the O doesn't eat everything. I got pissed at the O I had with mine cuz it ate everything, but I have a jag in with them now that pretty much does the same thing, but I tolerate it for some reason. The bichirs get their fair share of food.

I don't think there should be problems. I currently have an oscar living with a senegal and a endli.

I think the trick is to but the bichirs bigger and keep it that way as long as you can.

Added a wild type oscar to my tank - about 4 inches in length. One of my Enders "bit off more than he could chew". Scratch one Poly and one Oscar.
