I purchased some some Tetra Cichlid Sticks at work today, came home and fed everyone, but the Oscars dont seem to like them? They just spit them out! is that normal, they are just a step up from their cichlid pellets, and have the exact same ingredients as cichlid pellets and Oscar Grow, why are they just spitting them out?

Cause your oscar is being a snob for the moment. Don't fret. It's only 'cause he's probably used to a different flavor/texture/shape. They're freakish like that.
On a good note, he'll come around in a few days. To my knowledge, no healthy oscar has ever starved to death cause of snobby behavior ;)

i figured as much just wanted to make sure i was drastically changing there diet, and on a good note at least the bottom feeders get some food for once. :naughty:

LOL, be carefull and don't foul the water.
when/if I need to change diet, i fast them for a week. They then usually don't care what the food is....usually. Sometimes my jag or O is still stuborn, but they always come around.

I've had to starve my oscars for a couple of days for them to start eating pellets or sticks. I've also heard that soaking them in a garlic solution (elixer) prior to feeding may work. Good Luck.

Hello Oscarhook and everyone else. This is my first message posting and I thought this would be a good time to toss out my experiences with my oscars. I have 4 oscars that I have had for a year to a year and a half. They range in size from 8 to 10 inches and are not too wild about cichlid sticks. My jaguar and wolf cichlids dig the cichlid sticks, but the oscars love eating the Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets (medium-size) instead. I have found that my oscars turn into mess making machines when I feed them the large pellets, so I keep them on the medium pellets. Good luck with your oscars.

My oscar eats anything I drop in the water hes eaten the tetra sticks now hes on the large hikari pellets.also eats the peas and other veggies I feed my pleco

Hello gomezladdams. You have a nice looking oscar. It must be all the vitamins in the veggies. I checked out your picture gallery and saw the shot of your fish room. It looks like you got a sweet set up there. I have made a few tank stand racks over the last few months to hold my tanks at work. My office is a wall of water with 15 tanks ranging in size from 10 to 75 gallons.

Man, that's a great idea. My O makes the most ridiculous mess with the large hikari pellets. I'll have to try the medium pellets and see how he does. That's great! Thnx.

yeah it just sounds like a picky fish...at first when i supplemented my Oscar's diet with Cichlid sticks, he wasn't too enthusiastic. But after a couple days, he came around and started eating.
