I recently moved my 2 tiger o's into a 120 tall and bought two convicts to throw in the tank. Within 24 hours I noticed that the cons were attacking the much larger oscars tails and fins.:nilly: So naturally I seperated them and took one of the convicts back to the lfs. The convicts I picked up were two males, so I went and bought 10 grow out cons and tossed them in a 20 long to start a breeding project as soon as they paired up, and they have. Now I need to find a place for the rest of them so that the pair can have some peace and quiet. I want to add them back in the large tank, but dont want my O's all beat up. Has anyone done this before? So I guess my question is are convicts the same as barbs where there aggressiveness drops off when kept in numbers?

Convicts are pretty aggressive fish. Dumping the other eight back in the oscar tank will probably lead to some issues, especially when they start pairing up to spawn. I'd find a store that was willing to take those extra fish in as you will soon have tons of them.

How big is that oscar? The last time I did that my oscar ate the convict...

The larger oscar is about 7 inches and the lil o is about 5, most of the cons are 1.5" or so. I just got a call about some tiger barbs I posted on craigslist last week. imma just give a couple of the cons away.

I had the same problem with my two Convicts sneaking up behind my Albino Oscar and ripping his tail up. Head on they would run for their lives, but they are sneaky little buggers. I got rid of them both.

see those convicts, there agressive, but in there own way, they wont exactaly attack the oscar full on for death, but they will pick on other fish just to see what they can get away with than go in for the vicious attacks

my convict pair chill out most of the time, unless my 2 o's come too close to the spot they are re-arranging... but they are a little aggressive but if maybe if you just get a pair and add them it won't be so bad.

I have 2 female cons in the tank with my 2 O's. They have been in there for a few weeks now and my oscars chase the cons if they ever get too close...they make sure the little guys know who's tank it is.

I think the combo that would work is a grown Oscar with about a 1" Convict. The Con would be fast enough to get away and being a juvie it shouldn't push it too much. I wouldn't try it though, they're too mean to Oscars for my tastes lol
