I'm really jealous of you guys...its this kind of interaction that I'm looking for, but I'm stuck with a 40G long. I've been trying to find something with same level of personality that could fit but nothing so far :(
Get a female Convict. They're real personable and don't take up near so much room. Don't put a male in there or cram it full of other kinds of fish or the Convict won't concentrate on you as much. I just put a tiny Convict in a 30 g long with 4 Cory cats. Sweet little thing that begs like crazy. Nothing is going to match the pet-like personality of an Oscar, but female Convicts (common as they are) come close & are real pretty.

ive kept fish for over 15 years now, and out of all the fish oscars are still by far my favorite! my husband loves our red oscar-his body language is so different from the africans i keep-or any other fish.

i love how you can feed them-you KNOW they cant possibly be hungry and yet they are floating sideways looking up at the surface scanning for food-and its not even feeding time.

youd think we starve the poor thing to death lol

yea convicts, or you could get a jack dempsey ^_^. they grow to about 8 inches and live happily in a 40g.

green terror is another cool one. infact, both my jack dempsey and oscar live together and my dempsey looks up to the oscar and acts just like him, coming to the glass for feeding time to rub his nose around. and so does my O'opu. its pretty cute.

i gotta hurry to find my 125g soon though, oscars growing up.

Ya.. my two 8" Tiger are def funny... Sometimes i dont intend to feed them and they get the food.... Its rather annoying.. they have a bottomless stomach...

From any feeder fish... to pellet, to shrimp, meat strips, even algae walfers...!!!! i hate it when they eat algae walfers! :irked:

But going back topic.. they def are like dogs... both mine have jumped out numerous times trying to get food out of my band...

I have 3 Oscars and i put a frog in their tank and the frog was bout 2" and the biggest o was 6+" and it ignored the frog untell it moved then the oscar ate it and had it in its mouth for a while. it was kind grusum. Right when i decided it would be cool to keep the frog BAM gone. no turning back.

off topic but i saw my big guy trying to eat the bubbles from my 6 in air stone hahahaha couldnt believe it till he was very consistant

I have only had 2 accidents with my Oscar, one when i first got him...

I had just acclimated him and put him in the tank and as im walking off i hear a thud and there in my new baby oscar laying on the ground lol...

the second was just yesterday when i tried to hand feed krill... he completely missed the krill and bit my finger:ROFL:

I almost died laughing
