I have 2 oscars, one is black red(6") and another is albino red(4"). When i bought the black red one it had a nice red color with black.........but now it's gone completely.........now my oscars has only black color in it's body........i feed them guppies..........what was wrong? Can red color back again somehow? Any ideas?

How long have you had them for? i could be stress, i also have been told oscars can lose there patterns and colours as they grow but im ot sure how true that is.

Mine was black/orange when he was 1" more than 6 years later still exactly the same pattern and color

At 6" it should definitely not change color. Fish is behaving ok?

well i think this could be the problem
as guppies lack the required nutrients for an Oscar
use good quality pellets, thats the way to go for a healthy monster

:iagree: cut out the guppies

if you want to feed him live food go with crickets, woodies, worms, insects, etc

also hikari cichlid gold is a great staple pellet

Ya actually i was thinking about it that guppies is the problem...........i tried pellets but they don't eat them.........just pick them & release them.......so i am feeding pellets to my guppies before using them........but no luck.......what i need 2 do?

Your fish probably “like” guppies far more than they like fish, but just like with humans, what we like isn’t always what’s best for us.

I would stop feeding guppies all together and offer them a couple pellets each day, giving them more if they eat them. Eventually out of hunger alone they will eat the pellets and be better off. Then later down the road you can start giving them occasional treats of live food… just be sure to read up on what live foods are better and what ones come with warnings…

But the problem is i have other tankmates with them, 1 texas(7"),1 arowana(8") & 2 spotted gars(6" each).......if i stop feeding them guppies & give pellets then i don't think my other fishes eat pellets........so it will stop feeding all of my fishes........and also i noticed if i don't give sufficient food 2 my oscars & texas they become much more aggressive & attack my other fishes........what should i do now?
