Unfortunately you can't keep 2 Oscars in a 40 gal for long. The tiger will be killed. You can easily house 2 females, but you are going to need a tank of 120gal "minimum".

fetto, have you ever seen a full grown Oscar in person? When petsmart sells them "SM" and "LG" versions - "LG" maybe big for them but in reality they are only 3" long,- Oscar's can and WILL grow from 12"-18" When / if yours grow to full size (in about a year) you will have two fish too large to turn around in their own tank. And with age comes aggression. Couple that with a tank 4X Too Small = Destruction.

What I'm saying is, they'll most likely be much less aggressive / temperamental in a much larger, well aqua-scaped aquarium.

Good luck.

thanks. Yes ive seen fully grown oscars before larger then my head, and im aware the 40 gallon is quite crammed for 2 oscars. Right now they are about 4-5 inches, they have def doubled from when i got them. Yes i know how petsmart lists them, but i always wanted oscars, and i needed to clear out my convict tank. So the orignal intentions were to let the oscars clean out the convict tank so i can start over. But then the oscars started getting beat up, so i threw a red tail in there too, and the convicts started beating him up. So i pulled my extra 20gal high tank out, threw the convicts in there, and gave the oscars and rtc the 40. They are doing well right now, and ive noticed that the white oscar beats up on the blck oscar, and the black oscar beats up on the red tail, and the red tail chases the white oscar, so its a viscious circle lol.

Ive been going through craigslist religiously looking for a larger tank to upgrade to. But the few 100 gallons ive seen were mis sized, or cracked, and the 150+ gallon tanks ive seen were too overpriced, or came with no equipment other then the tank for an arm and a leg.

Or i was looking to get a 75 for my african community, and giving the oscars, the 55 gal the africans are in now, until i can get my own place with my own monster fish tank

I hope this doesnt come off sounding cruel, but this is my first attempt at oscar keeping, africans 8+ years, so i expect to learn by trial and error as well

Fetto, were you able to separate your Oscars? I hope it didn't die.

Hey Gruff, I was not able to seperate the oscars, but i did do some aqua scaping, and i arranged the rocks so they couldnt form a cave in the corner, rather just laid em all flat in the gravel, and that has seemed to tone down alot of the aggression. So far so good but i know its only temporary untill i can step in some **** and find a good deal on a used tank. Some of these places by me want like $2,200 + for anything 150 gallon and larger, since they come with the oak stands and hoods and lights/filters and everything.

Dont rule out HITH. Water changes make happy fish. And more hiding spots too. I would rearrange the tank with the light off (or you can remove them from the tank). Then they will have to reestablish territories with the change. Its just like a reset button, doesnt work all the time but its a idea.
x2 worked with my moms oscars.

oh yeah? I rearranged it with the lights on, like i said, i had a rock pile in the corner, that created a little crevis between the rocks and glass. i dissasembled the rock pile, and laid them all down to make mounds in the gravel rather then a cave. seems to be working better

Just a quick update. So far so good. I have rearranged the tank around a little bit more, and they seem to be doing just fine. I notice the scales healing better on my tiger oscar, and the white one i see some scales missing. I originally named them Fry (tiger) and Lela (albino) . If your not a futurama fan, its because Lela always beats up Fry, but in the end they always end up happy together, which these guys do at the end of the night.

The albino still beats up on the red tail catfish though.

Just a small quick video of the tiger going after a comet. I did buy 8 of these in hopes they would be good dither fish for a week..but they didnt last 10 minutes. This was him downing the last one. Dont mind my buddies in teh background of the video..they have never seen aggressive fish eat before lol

Hey guys, just wanted to keep ya updated. Both oscars are doing extremely well, as is my red tail cat. The oscars have grown a good amount , and the redtail has tripled in size. They look very colorful, and are very playful. I notice that my tiger oscar is growing much faster then my albino, but they get along much better now. Especially since the redtail is almost large enough to swallow them whole if they mess wit him, but he knows better then to eat them.

They get 24 feeders once a week, and inhale them all less then 5 minutes. Besides that its a diet of beeflion and krill.

Trying to upload a current video i took but its to large and taking to long from my phone to you tube.

HAHA i knew something would come from that statement, was hoping someone would link something. But I trust him LOL. I keep him well fed. Sooner rather then later, he will be upgraded to a larger home.
