Oscars Fighting!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As many have said above - all of this does kinda depend on the size of your actual tank.

I've had my O's kill each other. Even ones that had grown up together.

So... just keep an eye on the situation but unless your tank is big enough to sustain them both you are much better off taking one back. Trust me, at those sizes the last thing you want to do is find it dead at the bottom of your tank... its just depressing.

ya, your going to need a bigger tank for those two oscars.

Why does everyone think you need extreme filtration with oscars? their really not that bad.

because they are messy eaters (waste a lot of food) and crap cat size turds...that combination with a fish that is , by nature, susceptible to HITH doesnt work well without WAY more than adequate filtration.

I feed mine 3mm nls pellet, black worms, homeade food. If you feed smaller food they don't blow so much out of their gills, I feed mine twice a day but small amounts and they are still fat. with 3 oscars ranging 9"-11"in my 6' 100g my nitrates are normally 10 or below. their sitting at 5 right now. Only one of my oscars had some hith and that was when he was little but you can't even tell now. I really don't believe their as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Just don't feed them so much. I will grant the fact that i do twice a week water changes of 40% and run a sump with a 550gph pump. :grinno:

:ROFL::ROFL:

exactly...WAY more than adequate filtration and way more water changes than most people do! Good Job!:headbang2

i thought you would like that, but I still don't think oscars are that bad unless you feed large pellets or some bigger, now that is a mess i learned not to do.

I have 2 female oscars 1 red tiger, and 1 albino red, and they have been together since about 2'' and now they are around 8-9'' and they fight all the time, but they dont seem to cause much harm to eachother. I believe the reason mine fight is because I introduced a male albino tiger, and it seems that he paired with my red tiger female.

if you have a formed pair then you need to get the spare O out right away or you will come home one day to a dead O, pairs will not tolerate other Os
