OSCARS FULL SIZE!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
all i can say is up to now we have had no problems, if we do have problems we will have to either let them go or upgrade, but we have been told that it was ok to have 2 Oscars in a 180 litre

1st lesson in pet keeping... never listen to the guy at the pet store lol. You could always upgrade to a 55gallon and just get rid of one, most oscars will fight once they reach the 6-7 inch mark. But I think Im addicted to Oscars, I would love to build a 500+ gallon tank and get a school of them, that would be the coolest community tank ever!!!

thanks, ill let it go for a bit longer and make my decisions in the process. For now i prefer talking about them more positively, after all, i have never seen a fish with more character.

Aint that the truth. When people come over and ask if they can feed her, I tell them to shake the bag of pellets first to get her attention. And they are always shocked when she goes into feed me dance mode. My stepson loves to feed her and will dance right along the side of the tank!

How big is your Oscar now and what type is he?
Would love to see those pics.

He's about nine inches now and looking quite lively. I just measured him with a ruler and he went nuts. He was chasing the yellow squash I'm eating, so I gave him a chunk and he totally ate it. :0

belle-foudre i get wht u mean about oscars
i did so much research b4 i got them cuz i really like em alot
infact my near future plan is getting a 460 and stocking it with only 8 oscars of different types =D

fun thing to do with myn is feed them crayfish they get a kick out of killing the rays and ive heard crays contain carotenes also

wht do u all feed ure oscars apart from pellets??

I feed mine 2 diffrent brands of pellets, Hikari Cichlid Gold and HBH Oscar Show. I also make frozen food so I could sneak in some veggies with her diet:

  • 1/2 lb peeled shrimp
  • 1/2 lb scalops (on sale of course)
  • 1 fellet of talapia (IDK if this counts as some kind of caniblism lol)
  • 1 can of unsalted peas
  • 1 packet of gelitan
  • half a bottle of Boyds Vita Chem
I blended it up in my blender, and spread it out on wax paper and froze it. Im pretty sure its alot healthier than store bought frozen food (and alot cheaper for the amount I got)
I also breed dubia roaches (they look like big rollie pollies) which I use to feed our monitor and my toads, but I give the medium sized ones to my ofish, and she loves them. Its kinda messy sometimes though cause she does not like the outer shell, so its like she chews it up and sucks out the inside mushy part and then spits out the shell.:screwy:

I dont really feed mine pellets, i usually feed them prawns, lancefish, ham, mussels and sometimes we even grab flys and other insects and feed them to our oscars although theres not much meat on them.
