Oscars ? Get them?

I currently have 10g tank that I took down because of school I was really busy,but I want to put it back up and I am still deciding what kind of fishes to get.I was thinking about oscars.I had them before with my red devil but they attacked them,but this time I'm just gonna have oscars in the tank and maybe 2 pink convicts.I might be upgrading to a 30g soon.What do you think? AS I SAID I MIGHT BE UPGRADING !

I think it is a terrible idea. Stick with dwarfs in that sized tank.

10 gallon is ridiculously small to put a single Oscar in, let alone multiples. I know you said you plan to upgrade to a 30g possibly but that is also way to small for even one Oscar.

The minimum bioload wise for an O is 55g IMO and many will tell you 75g for minimum. You don't have the housing to properly keep them nor do will your plans to upgrade to a 30g suffice. Do not get them.

Okay. Same response as above. Leave those O where they are before you kill them in an outrageously overstocked situation.

I'm afraid Oscars will grow very fast. I have two of them, one in a 125 and one in a 100 gallon tank. One I bought when about 2 inches, it grew about 1 inch a month and was 9 or 10 inches long before I knew it.

Well...the worst that can happen is that they would die. Best case scenario is that they would be stunted and have HITH.

*sigh* Common... Do some research on the species before you decide to go and buy it.

As for what will happen. They easily grow 1"+ a month. They'll pollute the water immensely with their bioload. be constantly exposed to high levels of nitrates and waste. Have 0 room to stake out their territory since they are territorial cichlids and will either end up shredding each other, or dying from very poor water conditions. If they lasted more than 2-3 months they would have the displeasure of having their growth possibly stunted before dying from one of those two previously mentioned causes.

Just leave the O where they are until you have a proper sized tank to house them.
