I was wondering if anyone can tell me why after i i do i large water change on my oscars tank the water turns green, like an algae bloom. I treat the new water and after the tanks get a bloom and i have to treat it with algae remover then its crystal clear.

Is your tapwater high in Iron? High iron levels often lead to algae blooms.

If you live in an agricultural area, your water might be high in nitrates, phosphates, or algae growing chemicals.

Higher wattage can kill smaller items IME. A lot also depends on your filter system. If you had a 100g/ph filter and a 100W UV in a 20G, it'd work the same as a 9W. But if you had a 1000g/ph filter with a 9W in a 200G. it wouldnt work very good.

I may not be very clear but if you have a high output, you need a higher UV IME. This may not be the case. Just works for me.
