My oscars are such pig's....All they want is food, you feed them. Walk by ten minutes later, what do I see. That look! FOOD....geez they just keep on eating and are so sloppy at it. Why dont they just eat all the food instead of eating, then spitting, then eating again.:screwy:

Thank You...
That's Ms.Piggy,
She's the one who get's first didbs on any and all food that hit's the water...official taste tester I guess...no one, including my gentelman Aro, eats in peace till she is plumb full and brimming...She is such a b*** too.
Anyone who approaches her gets her verticle and mouth wide open with that look out of the corner of her eye...

Oh yeah, mine's the same way except that he never really gets full! Mine has scars on his head and back from hitting the top due to badly timed/placed food grabs.

yeah they are pigs,my black oscar tries every time to get the food befor it hits the water, but all he ends up doing is splashing water all over the place.he gets a good portion of the food in the tank, all the other fish dont get very much between him and my plecostomas

...I have been trying to get a pic of my oscars breaking the surface of the water and then a close up of their mouth when they lay on the bottom looking like they are gasping with a mouth clear full of food...Some times I think they are part chipmonk...:D
Every meal is like a Thanksgiving dinner aftermath...

My baby O's will eat anything that hits the water!!! I've even thrown lettuce in there just to see if they would eat it. Sure did!!!

It has to do with how they eat in the wild. Pretty much all large cichlids do this except for maybe the true picivores. In the wild they will sift through the mud and muck looking for a tasty treat (snails, crustations, worms etc.) and have to spit out all the nasty waste and mulm. In a tank, they continue to do it even with pellets.

my oscar is a 9" hoover! sucks up everything he wants and then he plays the bully to keep all others away till he is satisfied. he regularly comes out the water so i can hand feed him. he is a big lush!

welcome to the Wonderful World of Oscars:headbang2
