Oscars in 125?

no I'm not insane but yes they are adults. 4 are full grown and one is about 3/4 grown. i also have a fully grown Green Terror in there. they push eachother around but never do any damage to eachother. my tank dimesions are 75"x18"wx24"h. oh thats a 145 gallon tank. i also have a 4 tier trickle filter, the kind that sits on top of the tank. and i do weekly 40% water changes.

i found there are enough fish in the tank to keep everyone busy but not overly aggressive. it can be done with the right filtration and maintenance. I bought 2 fully grown, 2 half grown and one juvenile. tanks here are regulary way overstocked so they were probably used to a tank with more fish in it than mine hence not too much aggression.

If you see an aggression problem in your tank you can always remove a fish later but adding a new fish to an established tank is a lot harder. does this make sense?

I would do 2 in a 125g so theres room for some other fish

Ahh I change 100% every day. I think I'm just going to go balls out and put in 4 oscars, 2 rt/uros (can't tell which yet), 2 jags, my common pleco, my 4 line pim and a Synodontis Eupteris. Going by the inch per gallon they should all fit (this was just a joke so don't jump on me for the inch per gallon rule lol) but seriously I have good filtration, a 29g sump, and do 100% water changes daily, 50% 2x a day. Good idea, bad idea, comments?

You do 2 50% water changes EVERY DAY??? Why?! If you have good filtration, you really shouldnt need to to that. You would only need to do that if there was NO filtration.


The general rule is 55 gallons for the first oscar and 25 additional gallons for every oscar after that.

That equates to 130 gallons, so if you ask me, you would be safe with 4 Oscars in a 125 gallon as long as there are no other fish and you keep up on your water changes with good filtration.

3 Oscars is NOT fine. Oscars tend to pair off. Normally with 3 oscars, 2 of them will pair off and the other will be the "3rd Wheel". Normally when this happens the 3rd wheel will be bullied and harrassed by the pair.
If you have 4 Oscars, you would be MUCH less likely to encounter as much aggression.

So i say 4 Oscars in a 125 is fine. But no more fish, lots of filtration and a good maintenance schedule are crucial.

I'mma do 4 oscars, 2 red terrors/uros (not sure which, they are still too small), 3 silver dollars, a big 4 line pim, and a common pleco.
