how many oscars can i fit in a 20 gallon long tank ? also do they eat plants alot? i got 2 nice pieces of drift wood and im planning to attach plants on them.

I've heard from a lady that works at my LFS that her friend had an oscar and at night it would take the driftwood and plants and throw the out of the tank.
aww ok- how about cichlids? any suggestions i want somthingl ike an oscar- somthing fierce XD thansk a lot for the help - ill post pics when im done - my first tank = )
