Here.
My RTC ( now 70-80cm) just ate two of my 30cm+ Oscars.... They have been in a heated pond for a few years wile the RTC has been geting bigger , as they do....

So I have moved the rest of the Oscars a red devil and Flowerhorn , oh and a Black belt cichlid into my swimming pool (25000Lts - so not too huge). The pH is good (6.8-7.1) I have a UV and bio filter going and the waters a nice 22c atm .. Just geting into summer where I live..

The Flowerhorn and red devil have paired up and there are two prs of Oscars as well.. Just wondering if anyone has had luck catching fry out when they hatch in bigger bodys of water? I am guessing I will have to go snorkeling to get them.. should be fun!

I am quite keen on growing up a few batchs of Oscars....
Might post some pics if anyone wants some :)

I'll take Pics tomorrow morning , it will be dark when I get home ( I'm at work atm)

G'day Bluey,

your pond and pool sound great.
I have a fish(bait) trap purchased at a fishing tackle store(cheap), they come in different sizes with different sized openings, etc. Some days it'll work better than others, but i use it to collect fry from my unheated all year pond containing geo braziliensis, texas and spilurus and get a few from each species. There is many fry of different ages swimming around the pond and strangely frogs breed in here as well.

this may save you swimming, but snorkelling with your fish does sound fun.

hope this helps some

cheers

Oh and i can't wait for pics..............

wow you keep them there all year round?
I am in SEQ but I am sure it would be too cold to keep them in there in winter ( the water temp would get down to around 9C )

what temps are your pond getting to?

I will Post Pics in the morn...... But it's just a few 30cm fish swimming around in a pool , not much else atm
