Oscars in my swimming pool!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
G'day Bluey,

yes these fish stay in pond year round. The water temp does get down to below 10 deg C, this winter was colder than the past two here in Perth when I first started the pond.

I must admit the fish are more active(and hungry) at the moment as water warms up, but they still cruise around in winter and they are all healthy.

Many cichlids would not survive winters in the pond, but the selection I have in there do well. The geos are up to a foot long with amazing colours.

cheers

Won't the Geos get eaten too? I'd be a lot more concerned about them than the oscars.

The geos are not in my pond. The RTC is on his own now. the Oscars etc are in my pool..... Three different ponds/pools. keep up , LOL

In my 25000L pool are:
5 30-40cm Oscars
1 30cm Female red devil
1 40cm male flowerhorn
1 35cm Black belt
20 or so random bristlenose
I do have quite a few larger american cichlids I can add as well...but not for a few weeks/months untill the biofilter is fully cycled.

I will also have to sort out a net or some thing to stop the fish jumping and the Bigger preditory birds from eating the fish

Anyway some pics.... the black/brown are leafs.. I am thinking a school of silver dollars will fix the leaft prob , lol

G'day Bluey,

thanks for the pics.

Only Geo Braziliensis, but great fish to keep in all year unheated pond.
If we could get some of the Uraguayans in OZ these would also be possible.

I'll post some pics tonight(when I remember how)

cheers
