Yeah.....depending on the size of the bag, float it for 45 mins, adding around 100mL of tank water every ten minutes or so. Should be fine.

A varied diet is the best way to avoid HITH - chuck in some algae pellets (pleco type ones) broken up evry now and then, krill, artemia....Oscars will eat just about everything!! Avoid feeder fish unless you breed them your self - often carry diseases.

Hope this helps!! :)

PH 6 is perfect....Try feeding Krill and popcorn shrimp.....These foods put some color on the O's...

Try to keep variety in the feeding. I keep a freezer full of different stuff, as well as a variety of dry. Just rotate through them. HITH in oscars is usually caused by poor diet and/or poor water quality. Basically keep the tank clean with regular water changes, and keep the food varied. In my opinion, the #1 cause of oscar hith is damn feeders. Just don't feed them, they don't need them. As far as floating, 45 minutes seems like a long time to me. I float for about 5 minutes with no dip, then dip about every 5 minutes after until the bag is about 4/5 full, maybe 30 minutes tops. However you do float it, you can turn your tank lights out to help ease some stress. Don't be so nervous. As long as your tank parameters are good, and there's not already bullies in the tank, you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone it just that i am so nervous and yes i have done fishless cycling my LFS said come back next week as it should be ready and my lfs know what they are talking about they got such a cool test kit anyway i have prepared tank and i am going to buy all the food (probly spend over 70 bucks on food lol that should keep a variance of food) when i get him/her but agian thanks it helps since i am nervous.

Like said, try to stay away from feeders. Although the exact cause of HITH isn't known, I think varied diet and water changes should help prevent it. Relax, oscars are one of the hardier fish, and it sounds like you have done your research.
Also like said, stay away from feeders, esp. the cold water ones, as they have lots of fat, which isn't good for your O.
Good luck, thier a great fish, and even though thier very common, thier still one of my favs.

Thanks and yes i have been doing so much research but it worth it my LFS most of fish are babys and are freshly born well the freshly born ones are in the back but most of there fish at the momet is babys they had a black ghost knife fish it was 2 cm it wouldd be nice to have one but not for me as they are kinda hard to look after but the funny thing is he/she is 2cm just think in a year or two the ghost fish will be 50cm :WHOA: so i shall keep my impulse side under control and my LFS just got new oscars in:grinno: they are so nice there is albino, tiger, red and some other one i think it a hybrid not sure what it was but yer so cool yer i could go on for awhile not my fault my LFS rocks:headbang2 but yer its a good fish store they always ask how big is your tank and what do you want to get since they like to look after thier fish which is cool they have everything since i went in today the research payed off as i knew what fish was what they even have calvus fish lol sorry about that i get off topic and talk alot talking is good lol but anyway thanks for the help and advice.

there are no hybrid oscars, at least that I know of to date lol, so its probably just another color variant...but anyhow, your welcome, im glad you did your research and didn't just go and impulse buy, and your in for a treat, also just a heads up these guys grow fast!
Good luck, keep us updated, and if you have any other questions, feel free to shoot me a pm.
