Actively looking to upgrade? He plans on building a 500 plywood tank... Which takes months at the minimum (to do properly) especially with no experience building plywood tanks. He's a clueless kid that is currently obsessed with fish, I did the same at his age, but luckily my parents didnt give in (much) and I didn't become overwhelmed now that I'm in college and have a job. Also I will worry because even 3 small oscars, a jack Dempsey and whatever else he has in there is a huge bioload for a 55g that he probably just has a HOB on the back. Go check out his "went fishing today" and you will see how clueless he really is, he wanted to put 6 more fish (large sunfish) in there as well.
