I have a 55 gallon hexagon tank, with two oscars and i just put in a marble needle nose fish. My oscars are approximately 6 inches in length and the needle nose is about 7. Any input on the situation would be appreciated. The oscars kind of chased the needle nose around the tank for a day or two. BUt now they seem to have become acquainted..

My oscar (~ 8-9" long) acts like he doesn't care but eventually he will try to fit anything in his mouth. He's a stalker. And if a fish goes in head first then it's gone (crushing plates go to work immediately with him).

Needle is a cool fish. I'd hate to see you lose him.

Yea the oscars have already done work on all the other fish i tried to introduce in to the tank.
I had a pleco that they harassed until he died. Along with a spotted catfish that ended the same way.
And to top it off i had a bichir that disappeared randomly one night. i had him for a about 2 weeks and then one morning he was just gone. My albino oscar is a monster ha. He runs the tank and grew in size much more rapidly then my tigar oscar. They were approximately the same size when i purchased them. But the albino just grew like a weed.

Depending on the tank size... The oscars grow accordingly.

No, they don't. The ignorance petsmart and/or petco have taught you will make you shorten the lifespan of the fish you own.

according to the tank size my friend. If you keep 2 oscars in a 30 gallon tank they will not out grow it over night. They have plenty of room in the 55 gallon tank. I'm not arguing that the oscars could potentially grow to 12 in.+ But in most pet stores where oscars are sold, under there fish description the length is listed as 10 in. I have seen some monster oscars so you are correct with that. But they grow according to the tank that live in. Your not gonna see 2 oscars that are a foot long a piece stuffed into a small tank. Unless you bought them big and were trying to be cruel.

o and they do not grow to their full length in those tanks because they do not have enough space and are genearaly prone to diseases and death
