o and they do not grow to their full length in those tanks because they do not have enough space and are genearaly prone to diseases and death

+2. as you will soon find out in person and in this thread. Your tank is way to small for all 3 of those fish. The pair of oscars alone need 100+ tank. But I won't be the last one to tell up this.

I plan on having the oscars for a few more months and then upgrading to a 100 Gallon. I bought them when they were about 2 or 3 inches a piece. I am watching themm progress and plan on doing what ever neccessary to maintain their happiness and growth. But I won't have to uprgrade for at least a few more months.

Oscars do grow as big as their tank will allow. But their organs, will continue to grow to a full size. Usually when this happens the internal organs can sustain serious damage leading to a slow and painful death. Many "stunted" fish look terrible as well.

Also, oscars are highly territorial, and in general do not tolerate tank mates. Working at a LFS talking to several large oscar owners a day, I have learned that they will either kill their tank mates, or much less likely be killed by the tank mate. When fish become large and territorial, you aren't going to have a happy mix.

Generally, adult oscars never mix in tanks less than 36" long and 18" wide. And surprisingly often, they will kill each other in 6' tanks, but this isn't always the case.

Territory is also set out in surface area rather than gallonage. So a taller tank isn't going to allow more territory than a shallower tank with the same length and width.

As for saying the labels are right and the forum is wrong. It's like trusting a used car salesman more than the original owner. Us on MFK are true hobbiests who try to learn to take the best possible care of their fish. Petsmart and Petco and most other retail stores are retail stores before they are hobbiests. Having an oscar at home doesn't make the store any money, but selling them does.

All Oscars should grow to be 12+ inches by the end of their life. Get rid of your fish and do some research. Pet stores place small sizes so you buy ten fish because you think that the one inch per gallon rule applies to everything and that pacu only get to be 12".

Within a few months your fish will be dead or given away. Time to start thinking about Angel fish and Crocidile Gars for the tank you own. If you keep the Oscars in 55 gal. Nitra stunting is a real possibility, however more than likely they will just plain outgrow the tank. HITH is an acronym you'll get up close and personal with. The right thing to do is upgrade your tank to 125 long or larger. Charciformes (needlefish) and large cichlids don't mix well. Usually bad news for the Charicform.

according to the tank size my friend. If you keep 2 oscars in a 30 gallon tank they will not out grow it over night. They have plenty of room in the 55 gallon tank. I'm not arguing that the oscars could potentially grow to 12 in.+ But in most pet stores where oscars are sold, under there fish description the length is listed as 10 in. I have seen some monster oscars so you are correct with that. But they grow according to the tank that live in. Your not gonna see 2 oscars that are a foot long a piece stuffed into a small tank. Unless you bought them big and were trying to be cruel.

BADDDD IDEA MY FRIEND!!! Even worse idea trying to defend that argument on this site.... These are true fish lovers, and although TECHNICALLY you are right, it is perhaps the cruelest thing you can do to an animal. Picture that for a painful death, having your organs all outgrow you... Think about stuff like that before posting on this site... you WILL get yelled at.
