I just don't understand why people have to sya such negative comments on people and what they have within their tank and fish. Some people don't have as much money as other people, therefore, the don't have the luxurious 100-200 gallon aquariums.
If your gonna join an aquatic discussion forum, then post politely, because being negative towards ANYONE isn't gonna get you anywhere.

And if anything, i can always trade in my pacus and/or sell them to my LFS when they get big and if i do not have a bigger tank by then (which i probably will). So why does it matter???

Wasn't trying to flame you, just relating my experience. On that note my experience is that almost nobody will take in a big Pacu, even for free. Not even large public aquariums. Just sharing, my flamethrower is still securely locked in the armory.

I think from all the posts, it's pretty obvious everyone wants you to upgrade. It would be best for the False Gar to be separated from the Oscars. Two mated Oscars would require a 125g tank... I don't know about two males or two females. Probably bigger, since they'd each want their own territory.

I think everything that needed to be said has been said, sometimes nicely, sometimes not. Hope you do the right thing.

A 100 tank is luxurious for a school of neon tetras... but for two full grown Oscars it's cramped government housing.

And everyone says they're going to get a tank "eventually," but stuff always comes up! Money troubles, space issues, family issues, ANYTHING could happen to prevent you from upgrading. And like it has already been said, most places will not take a big Pacu. And you can't even eat it, because it's been swimming in water conditioner and high nitrates.

Way to welcome a new member into the forum everyone. For those of you who were level headed and actually gave great advice in a helpful manner, congratulations, you make this forum proud.

For those of you that are acting like little kids and being more hurtful than helpful, you should be ashamed for your behavior.

I wouldn't want to be a new member on a site like this where I have to be cautious about getting HELP because I have the potential of being ridiculed and flammed instead of helped. Keep it up and there will be no new threads. Won't that be fun.

x2. There are quite a few fish that I would love to have. But without the proper tank space I can't or won't get them. When people post pictures and info about their tanks, they leave themselves open for comments, especially if the conditions of the fish or tanks are bad. Even the mods will give advice for keeping fish if they see that things can be better. It's not always meant as an open attack on anyone. Though some members may make it that way. Generally, it's just to help a person that may not know any better. The best way to avoid members commenting on personal tanks and stock, is to NOT display pictures or info about them on an open forum. On that note, hopefully the mods will close this thread before it gets totally out of hand with rude comments and childish name calling .

according to the tank size my friend. If you keep 2 oscars in a 30 gallon tank they will not out grow it over night. They have plenty of room in the 55 gallon tank. I'm not arguing that the oscars could potentially grow to 12 in.+ But in most pet stores where oscars are sold, under there fish description the length is listed as 10 in. I have seen some monster oscars so you are correct with that. But they grow according to the tank that live in. Your not gonna see 2 oscars that are a foot long a piece stuffed into a small tank. Unless you bought them big and were trying to be cruel.

Agree 100%. If you put two oscars in a 30G, it will NOT take overnight to "out grow" the tank. They have outgrown the 30G tank at the second that they hit the water.

Whilst I do sometimes get upset about the "overkill" on tank size that some hobbiests hammer down (White Cloud minnow requires a minimum of a 200 gallon tank), I do not think that this is the case with your oscars.

2-No, a 3in Oscar wont grow out of a tank over night. But the current stock of the 60gal hex with the current filtration and the current feeding regiment IS NOT GOOD. There are things that he can do now to help the situation.
a)Get rid of the gar. It's not going to work with the Oscars anyway.
b)Get a filter that can handle the Oscars
c)Reduce the amount of feedings
d)Stop using live feeders
e)Start 50% waterchanges weekly to prevent disease
All of the above will keep the tank HEALTHY for a few months while looking for a new tank and cycling it properly before putting them in the new tank.
3-Yeah some people have been jerks on here and that's unfortunate. But all in all, good advice has been made. Good advice that has been attacked and labeled flaming when all it was was stating facts and experience. That is what this forum was made for, sharing these things.
4-You don't have to be rich to own fish but if all you can afford is a 29gal (theres no problem at all with that) then stock it accordingly. Don't get pissed because you bought pacu and are just now realizing that your fish store and public aquariums won't take them back. There is a reason for that. As previously stated, a pair of Pacu will outgrow a 600gal tank. And no thats not a rediculous size tank because or their size and waste output.

Everything that needs to be said has been said. Peanut Power was kind enough to leave the thread open so we could right the wrongs. I thought it would have been closed by now. I think we should stop repeating ourselves at this point and see if the OP has anymore questions about HIS tank that we can help with.
