Hi I always wanted some so I finally picked up 4 about 4 ins each right now they are in a 50 gal not keeping all of them hope 2 will pair up about what size do they pair up? What do most people feed theirs? How should I lay out the tank ? What size tank will I need in the future for full grown? Id like to start these guys off right the first time. I have two emperor 280s on the tank is this enough. I figure I will do water changes twice a week. Thanks so much Ive been really busy in the past but now that Iam retired I plan on spending more time on here.:grinno:
 
if you want to keep more than one comfortably go with at least a 6' tank, giving them space to pair off naturally

Great thinking! CA is right 6' tank. They will eat anything but give them a quality staple and vary it, they will grow fast.
 
the plan is good, especially the multiple water changes a week, which is key especially with all the hith oscars seem to get. A tank that size also allows for the possiblity of tankmates too
 
Thanks everyone right now Iam in the process of building a fish room. Hope it will be done in a couple of months meanwhile I can switch some fish around when my Os get bigger and put them in my 90 . Ill keep my eyes open for a 6 ft tank :drool::grinno:can you buy a 6 ft or would I have to have it made.

Check Craigslist, They are very common. You also may want to check the LFS sometimes they have tanks with chips on them that they sell cheap. Also check the market place "buy and sell" here on MFK.

Thanks will do. Have to buy a few more 2by4s for the fish room first then Ill keep my eye open. :grinno:
 
i feed my oscars color enhancing pellets and feeder fish that i breed myself, but only once every other day the pellets are thier main food
 
cool congrads on the oscars and retirement. ive always wanted a fish room maybe one day hmmmmm.
