OSCARS

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have mine with 9inch goldfish that almost outcompete him for food.

I would recommend a jag for your tank because they are just as aggressive and will not take the oscar's crap and they should leave each other alone

maybe a female jag, but i know no oscar could last 5 minutes with my 14" male jag. he doesnt even back down to humans in the room or messing with his tank. oscars are wimps compared to jags and in a small tank the oscar will lose that territorial battle. when i see jags and oscars in big setups together, the jags are usually still smaller the residing oscars. i dont see a jag letting anything live with it in less than a 100 gallon, and i have seen them run 300 gallon tanks.

Any cichlid of the same or similiar size. ie, Jack Dempsey, Red Devil, even a large Convict will go well. Large plecos or gibbiceps are ideal, ie sailfins etc. Stay away from the smaller species such as bristlenose and dwarf cichlids

You should have the minimum tank size of 75gal for one adult sized Oscar Canister filtration or diy sump/wet/dry as they are messy fish

And you want something big enough not to get eaten but small enough not to become a threat.

with out any more info thats all i can really say mate give us more info !!!

And Welcome to MFK

a 55 gal is also suitable for an oscar

unless you really like plecos there is no point in adding one. they dont take care of the algae once they get over a certain size, all they will do is add more waste to an oscar tank, not exactly a good thing.
