My two 7in oscars are in the garage. They live in peace and quiet out there, with their tank mates, and are thus especially stoked when the door opens.. Consequently, I do not spend much time enjoying and hanging out with them. Until the other night, when I added some pictus of borderline prey size. So I sat there and drank beer and watched my boys to make sure there would be no predation.
Well, there immediately was, so I made a mess and got the remaining pictus back out. Once things settled, I cracked another beer.
I think everybody was showing off. The oscars, after realizing that I was not going to feed them anymore, posted up right in front of my face and began vacuuming gravel like it was their job. Had never seen them do that before.
It was all cool then they suddenly started flaring gills and doing that twitchy thing. Then it was on. These two dudes, who in 3 months together had never shown any real aggression, started to brawl it out. Lip-locking, t-bones, scales flying. Looked like pure hate. I filmed it. Actually, it was awesome. It was about 15 minutes to lights out.
I had seen slight damage on each fish numerous times, and figured the obvious, but refused to believe it because they were so buddy-buddy when I was around.
Anyway, they got over it after a couple minutes and proceeded to slink back into the corner and like, lay together. Like they were sorry for being a-holes to each other. Then the lights went out. Now i assume they do this every night. Point is, I was psyched to observe my O's being O's. I really do love their personality and I need to move them into the house! And I wanted to share that.
