Feed them a good quality pellet as a staple and treats occasionally. Some say a 55g is bare minimum for a single Oscar but these guys do get big and a 75g would be a better choice. They are messy, big fish so regular weekly water changes are vital.

I've owned about 3 oscars over the years, I got another one about a month ago. In the past they have been rather passive but this new one seems like a trouble maker. I've got him in a 125gal with a few other fish the oscar is the smallest of all the fish. My tinfoil barb is as big if not larger than my hand, I was hoping that if I put him in while he's the smallest that it would keep him in check but it seems like he's gonna be a bully. I feed all my fishOmega one and tetra cichlid pellets. I feed 1-2 every coupledays sometimes I feed them when friends come over

Mine is not full grown and in a 55. It doesnt look right and doesnt feel right. You really need an 18" wide tank to give them comfortable space. A 125 would be best since they are active.

They are very greedy fish and feeding isnt a problem. Care should be taken not to let them become obese, and they do produce a copious amount of waste. Since they are so greedy, once they learn you provide the food, they will accept anything you drop in. I feed mine everything from fish roe to cucumber.

they are very prone to a disease called hole in the head disease which is aweful, as common as they are they are a medium level of care fish imo... although the will eat anything avoid throwing anything that people dont advise in the tank i.e meat scrapes will pollute the water and add to the chance of hole in the head disease..

ABOVE ALL keep on top of the water weekly with declorinator 30 percent changes at least.

They are sloppy eaters as well, they make a freaking mess. And when it comes to poop, they are poop machines. They are very interesting, emotional fish that make great pets either alone or with a fairly passive friend or 2. Put them in as big of a tank as you can, do regular large water changes and they will thrive.

keep in mind, oscars are one of, if not the, FASTEST GROWING FISH, in the hobby. Have plenty of space for them. At least 75 gallon in my opinion. Growing them out in a smaller tank should not be taken lightly because we are talking about a matter of months before they are too big for it. Since they grow so fast they do produce a lot of waste and are very messy fish. Frequent water changes are recommended.

i have two so far, one died and currently i have an albino/lutino oscar(avatar pic). feed them a variety of food such as earthworms, cichlid/hikari pellets, ghost shrimps nightcrawlers, as well as veggies and fruits. i feed mine earthworms, pellets and ghost shrimps. feed him pellets everyday and earthworms about every two days. i feed him more pellets even though he likes earthworms more, just to give him the proper nutrition. i feed him less ghost shrimp because im worried tht they might carry parasites. as for fruits and veggies, he really didnt like it. lol
