Correction:
Fish can not and do not recognize a partner by knowing what genus they're in. When given no better option a sexually mature cichlid in captive conditions may attempt to spawn with whatever is available. Cons can hybridize with many other Central American cichlids. Cross genus hybrids are well documented.

Parachromis X Herichtys

Paracgromis X cichlasoma

Amphi X Herichthys

+ many more for them to be viable the species have to have closy related dna and the same amoount of chromosomes.
