My Tank size is 40.9"L x 10.6"W x 20.3"H

That width is a bit of a problem when dealing with cichlids. Those Dempseys alone will most certainly need ALL of the room in the tank as adults -- they will need more in the future to be honest. A 55 gallon has a 12" width, which is pretty tight itself, but it works. 10 1/2" for a fish to turn around isn't enough for a JD. They can easily reach 7-8", and have been seen at 10". I'm pretty sure most would agree.

Can you get a larger tank?

yeah im thinking i might have to upgrade after awhile or have a friend take them. but thanx for info guys. im loving this forum. alot of great info, and seems like a mature crowd.

so i was just at the Pet Store and a guy tells me he just got rid of his JD he had it in a 55 gallon take with 10 other fish...the JD was still vicious.. i hear the more room it has the more tame it will behave

In some instances that is very true. Other situations, people have them in purposefully crowded tanks, as they think it helps curb aggression - which to some extent it does. Different things work for different people. Fish do have different personalities, but similar behavior.

heres another question for ya's how fast does a bala shark grow? i'd like to get one for awhile but i heard they can grow to like 23"

jds get up to 16 inches and if you have 2 in a 38, thats already too small. get a bigger tank and you could mix firemouths and convicts with em
