Woke up yesterday morning to find this guy like this.

Didn't even realize he was still alive until he started flopping around on the paper towel, I had to put him out of his misery...

I guess there was a slight chance, but the tail would never grow back, and would have been very difficult to recover after that.

i had a convict that was like that (except no damage on the back) it healed up and swam ok, just looks funny cuz the anal fine grew all the way up to its back. eventually my rhom finished what it started...

I didn't think a fish like that could come back. That's crazy that your Con lived.

i was surprised too, it even made few batch of babies with its old mate before it got eaten.

That's about what was left of my biggest one a few weeks ago (minus the bites on the top of the back. Mine wasn't alive when i found it though.

Chances are he would have died, however I have seen some p's make comebacks from similar injuries.
