Here's something you don't see everyday....... A victimized Dorado. And it's not a small one.

Had to move it out of the big tank today and into some calmer waters where it can catch a break.

Hoping it will heal up ok. Seems unbothered by it, swims fine.

I have 2 Dorado that are the same size in the 750. Seems as long as they get along fine and stay in their part of the tank (mid-upper) everything's fine. But when they fight and chase eachother in circles on the bottom of the tank the guy on the bottom simply doesn't tolerate it. Still don't know if the wounds are from the other Dorado or the Aimara. What do you guys think????

:nilly:

I think it's the aimara since I don't think dorados will aim that low. Aimaras are the bottom dwellers. not life threatning.

I've had Dorado attack eachother in transit before(3 in 1 bag). Wounds looked pretty similar. I could see it going either way, just thought there would be a few more slits from the wider bear trap type jaw of the Aimara. I believe the other Dorado to be cause for tail damage.....

I guess IF it happens to the other Dorado I'll definetly know...... :(

Definitely from the aimara, my dorado had a similar wound from my mala, but it was a lot deeper and I didnt think he was gonna make it.

Did it survive the attack?

This brings up the question... Will aimara work in a comm tank? Its worked for a while now but how long will it last? Will you seperate now? After his next attack? After a ray gets bit?

Not saying this will or will not happen again but this is prob why this combo isnt tried very often. Seems to me its just like an armatus... You can only cage the beast for so long lol

I have no idea if it will work, but if I really didn't think there was a chance I wouldn't be doing it. I think (and could be wrong here too) the problem is 2 Dorado. It irritates the wolf when they fight. They spin circles fast enough to make sand tornados lol. Drives him nuts. I haven't had any kind of issues in thier normal day to day interactions, or even at feeding, just when they're spinning circles smashing into things darting all over.

The plan was never 2 Dorado, but rather 3. (Rays got one) Suprisingly with the help of the other fish in the 750 the 2 Dorado tolerated eachother so I just went with it and enjoyed it while it lasted. I may try it again in the future, but not gonna assume that 2 Dorado will work.

The wolf knows it's the apex fish in the tank. Really doesn't seem to me to see the rays as any kind of threat, never seen any aggression towards the rays like I have towards the fighting Dorado, or siphon, or algae pads....... If it doesn't work there's plenty of tanks here for the wolf to have to itself, there's an extra 6x3 in case there's a worst case deal, I'm wrong and I end up having to move it. Aimara are mean, not saying they aren't, but it just doesn't seem to me that they really seem too intrested in what the rays or catfish are doing. At this point the wolf hasn't even really messed with anything yet, aside from the 2 times prior to this incident when I saw the wolf snap when the Dorado "spun" by.

We'll sgee how it goes..... Always a friggin fish juggling extravaganza around here. Wish they all grew at the same rate...... lol

when i first got my Dorado he attacked a lot of different fish, but i never saw a wound like that from him ... their mouth is more sandpapery than vicious teeth from what i've seen so wounds from them fighting look more like scrapes and abrasions, loss of scales, but i wouldnt think deep gouges like that, so i'd say Aimira, but then again the Dorado's could have been fighting and he smashed into something causing the injury so its tough to say.... Dorado's, from what i've seen, kill tankmates by relentlessy chasing and nipping, badgering other fish, not by inflicting massive wounds ... either way it sucks and i hope he pulls through.... i used to get mysterious wounds similar to that when i had my mala, but didnt know who was doing it until i caught him in the act.... got rid of the mala and no more mysterious wounds have appeared .... just a thought, maybe get another 750 just for the aimira? :D

Yeah,I'm thinking the aimara came from underneath and took a swipe at the belly area..I was going to guess maybe a slash from an armatus.
