great build!!! im building the same size tank as well! i decided to get a APC backup after seeing your setup.

i was looking to plug in my airpumps, koralia powerhead to it and perhaps keep a spare heater around just incase.

Just remember that each device you plug into the battery will create more load which in turn is less battery time. The good thing about this model backup is that is has it's own Kill-A-Watt system and can tell you how much wattage it is pulling and the battery run time. After this is all done, I'm going to figure out how to make it email me if it goes into battery mode. My whole network is on battery backups so it should have enough time to email me if the power goes out to the house.

WOW Great job man so you went with the arowana route huh? i love arowanas (: how big do you think it is? and how much?

How long would one of these back ups run say.. a heater and an FX5?
I'm looking into these, but unsure of which model to get.
During the winter in my area we occasionally have power outages that last a few hours, some times days.
Would be nice to have these for individual tanks with spare batteries, then a generator to run the rest of the house..

Made the lid in four pieces. It's like that so we can open the top all the way without it hitting the ceiling. I figured no need to paint the top of the lids because you can't see it and it shouldn't get wet.

Don't be so sure. Just because it's not directly facing the tank doesn't mean it can't get wet. I would at least prime it. When you open the lid you can get splashes, humidity etc. It's a lot easier to do it now then having stains or worse swelling later on because you got a little lazy. In my mind anything that's not waterproof around the tank needs to be coated or sealed.
