our hobby love and frustrations- 2006 looking back

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nothing but good for me. I went from two tanks to 13. Most of my fish have done well, but I endured frustration keeping Rams. Everything seems to be working out well in that regard though.

The biggest improvement in my fishkeeping life this year life was joining ]v[FK!

It was a good year......i really got started in the hobby ....went from one ten gallon to a 75, 46, 2 29's , and 2 20's........and just got to experience how much fun fish keeping is.......can't wait to see what the new year brings.........

Biggest frustration...Spilling water all over the living room floor and listening to she who must be obeyed complain about all the mess.

Biggest joy....Having she who must be obeyed buy me a new tank after making such a mess in the living room.

I learned the hard way this weekend that a new protein skimmer is not consistent in production. I had water pouring out of the top of it twice, and it landed on my power strip, nearly starting a fire. Fishkeeping is an adventure all it's own.

i got restarted in the hobby after an 11 year hiatus. learned that there is way more to a filter that meets the eye. i almost got a job at a pet store. got new friends throught this forum. and i have gained a healthy respect for electricity shocked my self too many times.

sadness in the year. my large channel cat commited suicide. one of my Os passed away from hole in the head. and i lost my hero Steve Irwin

Its 2007 looking back at last year, here where some of my frustrations caused by my love of this hobby, please feel free to share your random thoughts........:nilly:

Finally finding the fish of a lifetime, then you realize your short funds or room in your tanks.

When you realize your dream 125 is only a grow out tank.

Somebody always posts a pic of a new must have.....

You can never find enough scrubbies at the dollar store...

Losing one of your centerpiece fish after 3 years, from unknown causes...:irked:

When chain pet stores never have anything your looking for or need...

Your electric company sends you a "thank you letter" for your business

Here's to 2007- May all MFKer's have a healthy and happy new year and to the dream of the next tank setup that's just around the bend..............:headbang2

You pretty much covered it.

Oh I forgot, 2 weeks ago I disconnected my diatom filter backwards and started syphoningmy tank in 2 different places while screaming for help and trying to stop it from drainging all over the floor.

I remember the worst thing that happened last year and it was BAD. It started off with a large family get together at my house. Myself, my Uncle, my Mother, my Grandparents and a few others are chatting in the family room while eating appetizers before dinner. When all of a sudden there seems to be water dripping down, no more like pouring down the chimney. So I ran upstairs and found my 50 gallon was nearly empty, the carpets, furniture, everything was soaked! Well I had to excuse myself for like 5 hours while I attempted to dry everything off. The next day the carpets and my couch smelt like *****, I am sure my floor boards were warped to hell and the tank found a new home in the basement. Unfortunately for me the return hose came loose from my filter and well the rest is history.

That had to be the worst day of the year!!

The good

- Finally starting a SW tank after years of FW.
- Getting a spiny soft shell turtle and giving him a kickass setup
- Buying a baby Uaru for 75 cents and raising it up through several health issues.
- My JDs mating twice.
- Getting a 125 with a stand for $200

The bad

- The one GOOD LFS in my area going out of business.
- Finding a ghost knife that I had worked really hard at getting healthy dried up on the carpet
- Red Devil deciding to go OJ Simpson on my female Flower Horn.
- Getting a $50 gift certificate to an LFS and not being able to decide what to spend it on.
- Mouth fungus wiping out a good portion of my Africans.

For me, 2006 was a very good year!

Good things:
- bigger tanks
- bigger fish
- better fish
- massive growth!
- finally got my dat!
- only 1 mortality during summer heat.

Bad things:
- not one decent shop around. got €50 in a shop but still havent bought **** due to lack of monsters.
- no more datnoids anywhere in this country
- expensive filter media
