It's called stress, lol. That would also be the reason why it's flying around hitting its head on stuff. But then again, it could also just be his natural color. They'll get redder as they get older though, in my experience at least. Nice lil jag. Pump him up.

No reason the oscar would be stressed. Water conditions are perfect, he has plenty of room, a good diet (earthworms, pellets, bloodworms, crickets, beefheart), and none of the tankmates bother him. He is dark because of the black gravel and background, and he bumped his head chasing the danios at night. Ever since I got him he used the black back of the tank to stealthily swim from one side to the other. I think I will put sand in the 125 with the black background though. I like gravel, but want something more natural looking. If anyone has other ideas let me know.
