That is awesome. My daughter loves birds. How much attention do these guys need? My aunt had a huge red parrot that went crazy and pulled all his own feathers out, I read later they do that cuz they don't get enough attention...
From my understanding/research, feather plucking can occur from more than one reason. Bordem/frustration or incorrect diet being the more common. Our boy will get on average 5 hrs a day of free roam/play time out of his cage. Plenty of toys to constantly change around to keep him occupied and plenty of human interaction. A diet of mainly fresh fruits, veggies, nuts with a small amount of seed should keep him happy so touch wood we never have a problem.:)

Love that species. They are one of the few birds you can cuddle like a cat and not lose fingers.
I am literally amazed how this guy snuggles up to my spouse already.

Just a heads up eclectus are one of the most common species of birds that do overpreen/pluck. Hopefully you wont have any issues with yours but there will be a higher chance. I would also recommend adding some pellets to his diet TOP and Harrison's are both very good brands. Good luck!

Beautiful bird! It's amazing how different in color the females look.
It is quite a contrast between the two.

Thanks for the heads up. Advice is always welcome.;) I have been informed, if feeding pellets to steer away from the colored varieties. Any truth to this?

I personally don't like the colored pellets you are giving them something that they would never have a chance to come across naturally and it will also change the color of their poop so it will make it harder to see if there is a change in it for health reasons. The only time I offered my macaw pellets was when I was converting her over to pellets. The 2 pellets I recommended earlier are the ones I think are the best they are both certified organic which I do believe is beneficial to them. Everyone has their own opinion on what is the best diet for birds you will just have to use your own judgement on alot of it. Hope this helped some:D
