do we have a better chance of it eating at night since they prefer darkness over lights?

Sure do.

still hasnt eaten.. should we just hold off for a day and offer again incase its being stressed by us offering food once-twice daily (first thing in morning before lights go on and then a couple hours after they go off at night)? It does seem to be moving around a *little* bit more in its cave, it doesnt have itself smashed under the rocks anymore but rather stretching out beneath the rocks... i want so badly for it to do well, do we realistically given its age/size have a week or better without it eating? should we leave any peices of food in the tank for it or remove them right away? should we keep the lights off in the tank until it starts coming out on its own? is it basically luck of the draw on time frame before it decides to venture out from under its rock?

I WANNA SEE MY SHARK SWIM!!! it was suuuuper active in the bag when we picked it up, using its tail to get its face above the water, exc... we acclimated it slowly and its been a slug since lol...

someone please tell me im :screwy: and this thing will eventually eat :( its only been 3 days but my mommy instincts are in full gear, i know someone who resorted to force feeding their shark and it died... did it die due to stress? (i would NEVER attempt to force feed the shark just as a disclosure)

ETA: this might be a stretch but i have to ask... should we stop feeding our other fish/ray/eel/shark with the metal tongs (not sure what its made of) weve been using since sharks arent tolerant of metals? we also have a magfloat that stays in the tank, should we take it out except for when were using it? I want to make sure were not causing any unnecessary stress to it.

Ditch the metal and magnet ASAP. I wouldn't use the magnet cleaner with a shark in the tank. I can mess with them a lot. I'm even hoping to get in on a study coming up that uses magnets to keep sharks out of swimming areas.

Leave food a while (30 mins or so), but not long term.

Chances are it won't swim much while being watched (for awhile). Nocturnal animals end to hide alot. With time, that will change. Carpet sharks are known for just hanging out on the bottom and hiding.

((DOES HAPPY DANCE)) i just walked into our room to find our baby shark swimming around the tank!!!!

As soon as he/she settles back down ill remove the magfloat and chuck the tongs... i grabbed a couple really quick pics so not to stress him with flash.. im soo excited, now if only we can get him to eat.. please tell me this is somewhat a good sign??

That's great...

My guess is he will eat within the next 24-48 hours now that he's starting to become active.

Mine loved fresh shrimp and smelt.

booooo!!!! dont tell me that! your supposed to say our new baby is going to eat for us, the stress will subside and everything will be all peachy, although realistically i know we will always worry about our creatures... im just holding out hope he eats for us and starts to grow :grinno:

Is just one person trying to offer him food? or are multiple people trying? I find that its best to just have one try to feed as it cuts down the stress as the shark comes to know you. For my black tips if anyone else by myself tried to feed them even when they were full grown would refuse to eat.
