Hahah i actually day dream sometimes how stress free it would be to have them seperated. My lord you had to deal with 2 pearsei ? God bless you. S.o.b almost ripped open a media bag of ridx i had soaking in the tank last night. Caught it just in time.
Lol And here I had thought they'd be such trouble free tankmates. Though I've had Pearsei before and I have to say yours seems like he's a glutton straight from hell. Mine where food aggressive but not as much as some other Cichlids I had. Believe it or not right now it's a Chocolate hoarding most of the food besides my Creni's. He's also on the list to rehome but he definitely isn't moving as easily as my Pearsei.

Yeah mine is a p.i.t.a cant rehome him though my wofe amd kids are poly junkies (wife actually is the reason we got into polys) the pearsei is the house favirote.

Im surprised its the choc lol never can tell whos gonna be the trouble maker with cichlids. The choc goes for the raw fish too ? Thats the only thing the pearsei wont go for. But will still mess around and hit the tongs....smfh

Maybe try the tongs when you feed raw fish.. for pellets only god or darkness (lights out) can help. How many polys are you trying to feed and how many cichlids are you battling ?

That's awesome the whole family is in on the hobby. No matter how small their involvement the fact that they take an interest is great. The only family I have that used to be in the hobby are my fathers brother, my 2 uncles. They got me into fishkeeping as a kid but have since getting divorced quit the hobby. Only one currently shows any interest in my tanks or fish. Other then that everyone thinks i'm blown outta my mind spending as much as I do on fish.

The Chocolate hits and eats everything, including raw fish and shrimp. He's not the only trouble maker but he's up there. Every pellet or morsel of food he sees he tries to grab. He's even crashed into the glass top mistaking a bubble or who knows what for food even if I'm no where near the tank. Scares the heck out of my niece when she's playing my PS4.

Lol, guess it's time for me to start praying before lights out and throwing in the bed time feeding. Currently one poly the CB Endli I said goes beast mode. I had a 14 inch Koliba but she jumped on me. That's the other thing, I don't know if it's my stock causing it but I lost a Nigerian Lap and Koliba to skittish jumps. Again my endli is calm as a cucumber but my bigger Poly's seem to get skittish and jump. I also don't know if it's the comcrete floor but even finding them immediately I've yet to save them.

As far as the amount of cichlids, I'm battling 2 Pikes(1 Zebrina and one T-1), 1 Chocolate and 2 Ingots. The pikes are by far the worst. Those gluttons not only have deep guts but huge mouths to hold food in.

a grabber imo not worth it for polys. just throw the food in 2 areas.. for me i gotta deal with cichla.
Dude, I don't know how you do it. I've never had Cichla but I've seen them in action eating and they're absolute beasts when it comes to food.

Yeah its nice to have them involved. My wife does complain about the effort and money though lol. Also thinks most of the pokys look the same ahah
My son is actually the reason i got back into the hobby. We used to work out together (i'd move the weights for him hes was only 3ish) it was kind of our thing but few yrs ago i had back surgery gave up the weights but i still needed a way to connect with him. Started with a 30 gal, you know where it goes from there lol

Theat choc sounds worse than my pearsei holy sh... i could never battle that many cichlids diring feeding time god bless you.

Well i think i kind of solved or atleast lessened my problem. We are gonna be moving and i needed to cut down the ount of tanks untill the end of the summer. So i rehomed a lap , moke amd zonatus. The lap and moke were the slowest eaters plus they're on the shy side and were kind of big when i got them (always like growing out my fish from a small size)

Damn zo was beautiful but too damn nasty couldnt justify a tank for him.

The plan is to have the pearsei and the most aggressive eaters (del and ornate) in one tank. And a small heterospilus, a small sen and two smaller endlis we just got today in another tank.

Hey man, if she didn't complain a little she wouldn't be doing her job and you'd probably be broke with nothing but tanks and fish to your name. :D Again man, I'm glad to hear your son is actively involved with the hobby. I've always wished I had something like that to share with my father. I also know too well about back injuries and how devastating they can be. I had one recently that required surgery and I'm still very much in pain and am suffering from hyper sensitivity in my legs below my knees, swelling, loss of hand dexterity and am unable to move several toes. I'm sorry for your back issues but glad you found a way around it to keep connecting with your son.

Lol, at least someone understands the pain I grow through these fish sure don't. Yeah the Chocolates a terror but only during feedings. Other then that the tank is surprisingly harmonious
(knock on wood).

Sorry to hear about the downgrade but congrats on the move. I had the same issue, my Laps are the slowest eaters. Coincidence?? Haven't had a Moke so can't say about them personally. My Zo was a puppy dog, at 10 inches he stayed to himself; I actually had to rehome him because a Hartwegi and Synspila kept beating on him. Though he was in a different tank then my Poly's. Honestly when it comes to cichlids I'm starting to feel like I'm going to have to start dedicating one tank per specimen or pair just to save some gray hairs.

My plan is to try the morning feedings in combo with the tongs/PVC, just before lights on. I have a feeling that's when the cichlids will be their least alert and most sluggish. Glad to hear you think you've worked it out. Good luck with the new Poly's and tank arrangements, bro.

Damn man sorry your going through that with your back. Intried everything under the sun to avoid surgery, in the end the surgery didnt help either. Same issue with the nerves. Hahahaha i also just had hip surgery to repair a tear lmao atleast we can still walk !

Hahahhaha my sons gotta start earning his keep some time...."oh water change boy come hither "

I've got a tank full of dats, mahseers, and misc monsters and have no trouble feeding my polys.I cut up 2 tilapia filets every other day and just dump the whole bowl in the tank.

PVC feeding tube is a great idea should that not work out for you. It doesn't take long for the fish to realize its purpose and will get excited for food as soon as the pipe breaks the water surface.
