Out of hobby...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Job and buying camera stuff got me out of the hobby. For now....

I think the economy is to blame I know if i get laid off and have to keep a roof over my head the first thing to go will be my reef tank. No wait that will be second the first thing will be that credit card crazy wife of mine

it could be money issues.

ie if you need fast cash quick, you sell stuff and your tanks end up on the list.

I don't think its general cost of maintaining them since fish are relatively cheap, so is fish food and water and hydro are nothing compared to the hydro and water most people use in daily living (showers, baths, dishes, heating the house etc)

the startup costs of a big setup are expensive (tank, stand, filters, lights etc)

after that, its relatively cheap.

Keep in mind the spring summer time is when a lot of people decide to move and relocate or sell off the things clogging the garage etc... I usually make out like a bandit in the spring and summer flippin tanks on CL. Enough to usually pay for a monster set up each year. That and some guys have a habbit of taking money away from the family for the hobby and it affects relationships with loved ones etc... I keep mine as seperate as possible. Most people leaving the hobby in my area just want it gone, got a divorce or decided they can't take a hobby to a new town or home.
