There's 4.5gals of biomedia in the wet/dry. That's enough for about 220 gallons. The bins are 50 gals each. That's plenty of filtering (9x cycling/hr) for a couple of turtles.

It's a bundle of 6-8" bamboo stalks. These bundles are sold as "lucky bamboo". I put these bundles in fish water and they take off. The tallest stalk is over 4ft and I've only had that plant for a year.

Here's what it looked like when I bought it (ebay). Less than a foot tall.
