With much debate I have decided to take a break from American cichlids and for the 1st time in my fish keeping life no longer have any. Instead I have decided to make use of the tank size and go for one of our natives here. A true Aussie freshwater king and predator. The Murray Cod (Maccullochella peelii)

This image was taken by the seller when I purchased him on the 8th of Dec 2011.

Just 3.5 months later and it has grown considerably. It is still quite shy so it was really hard to get a decent pic of it yet but that will come.

For those unfamiliar with the species, here's a little insight into their size and beauty.:naughty:

Wow! That thing is fresh water? It looks like it has the mouth of a red tail catfish with the body if a shark! Haha. Have fun with it and don't forget to post pictures as it progresses! I love your pictures :)

I'm a huge SA/CA fan myself but your thread led me into a little research on the Murray Cod--and what a cool fish! They seem like they develop some good character too. Not to mention get massive and live a long time. What size tank is he in?

Currently has the 9' x 4' x 3.4' to itself. The tank looks very empty at the moment but that is sure to change soon enough.

Very cool looking fish. What did you do with your cichlids?
