Outdoor Pond Build for a Fly River Turtle

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice. If I lived in a hot topical area, I would love to be something like that.

Thank you. Correction on the hot tropical area though, Kuwait is a dry hot desert with temperatures rising to 50+ degree's C during the summer months. My pond isn't in direct sunlight most of the day though, it only gets around 3 hours of it so water heating up too much during the summer months hopefully shouldn't be an issue :)

Walid

Here are some pics to keep yall occupied while I run around the country trying to find the appropriate size of piping for my filter o.o

Also, I'm noticing quite a bit of detritus buildup on the walls of the pond. Does anyone have any tricks / insight on how to go about cleaning short of rubbing my hand along the inner pond like I'm doing now? :)

Walid

Lovely

I am hoping to find a nice legal one myself!!

Awesome pond and pictures. That first post was a little long. I'd you are worried about lossing water to evaporation put a tarp or canopy over the pond. This will catch some of the water vapor. If the canopy is larger then the pond put a weight in the middle of the canopy so it is lower then the edges. This will cause the water to run to the middle then drop back in the pond.

You can also build a greenhouse around it and add tons do plants.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

I don't mind the evaporation too much anymore now that summer has arrived and the ambient temperature is closer to the water temperature. I also set up a water tank with prepared fresh water to top off any evaporation I encounter.

A greenhouse around the pond wouldn't do well aesthetically in the garden, however I have got some plants planted in and around the pond area now, so everything is much more aesthetically pleasing than the previous pictures.

The pond has been through quite a few changes since the last pictures I had uploaded, I added some lily's to the pond (which shortly afterwards were eaten by Freddie...), cat tails, and two other plants which I forgot the names of, but basically one is a grass with little white flowers and the other a water plant with large arrow shaped leaves.

Filter has been added, however I need to work on better positioning of it for aesthetic purposes.

The pond ended up not turning into a northern Australian biotope as I had originally planned. It now has about 80 different colored guppies in it, along with a few hundred cherry shrimp, 20-30 neon / cardinal / blood nose tetra's, and 2 bristle nose catfish.

I'll post updated pictures when I have some free time this weekend.

Cheers.

It looks really nice! But i see a problem. The air temperature you said is much below the water temperature at night. I heared that can cause respiratory problems.
