hi, i'm going to have a 200gal tank outside, however i need it to have a stand for the sump. is there anyway i can prevent the wrought iron from rusting in the long term? or is there another material i can use? thanks in advance!

powdercoat it possibly?

If applied properly, sure. And don't go with a cheap paint.

Have it zinc metallized, then powdercoated. It will stay rust free FOREVER! A buddy of mine makes wrought iron fences. Even after 8 years out in the weather THEY DO NOT RUST!

Powdercoating should do the trick.

If the tank will be protected from the elements then any outdoor paint (with zinc primer) will be all that you need.

Zinc metallize it! Then paint it! It's the hot set up! I've seen wrought iron that's been "powdercoated" down at the beach here. It rusts in aproximately 2 years. Rustoleum? Same! Rust in 2 years. Bare zince metallized? (Looks like the finish on a chain link fence) 8+ years and still no rust! Don't waste your time with paint. You'll just have to repaint it in very short order! If you do it right the 1st time you will have something that looks nice for a decade or longer!!!!

Weird, there is a bunch of wrought iron stuff sitting in my parents yard that has been powder coated and all of it is rust free. A lot of that stuff has been there for at least 10 years.
