they have a constant inflow of water from a well, in the summer this keeps the water cooler, but in the winter the inflow from the well keeps the water warm enough.

pretty standard South Florida fish farm

It it wasnt that I have bills like everyone else and paying off this house .I would quit my job and open up something like that but make some changes . I would add bird avairy as like birds also .
What a pleasure it must be working outdoors like that with fish instead of in an office wearing a suit (actually I wear pajama bottom as sit behind a desk no one sees me only shirt, tie, jacket)

after a certain amount of time fish farming becomes a job, just like anything else

Well some jobs are more fun than others lol . I have a friend CPA worked for one of the top 2 firms in NY city.
One day on the way to work got off the subway went back to condo put it up for sale packed up moved to Australia worked on gator farm now owns it this is going back 6 yrs and never looked back.
Emailed me some great pics few days ago he loves it . Makes fraction of what he once made but life way better .
I might just open a Fish farm and have him send me some saltwater crocs to sell lol. I tried button quail as a side hobby "learning to farm" when I lived in Long Island NY . Good thing didnt quit my real job.
Can I interest you in 300 button quail ? lol

As a frequent customer at the fish farm mentioned in the original post (mostly for plants for my wife's planted tanks), it is a nice place to go see the fish and all, but I prefer not buying from them, as the fish are not that cheap, and every fish I've bought there the last few times I've gone there comes with some sort of parasite (whether it develops ich or internal parasites, etc). Not saying people shouldn't buy from there, but quarantine for at least a month (if not, I would have problems in all my tanks by now)

The fish I have picked up fire Mouths -Guppys-- cory cats-bristtle nose plecos all very healthy but I do agree some of the fish are not cheap (brisstlenose plecos) but some are incredibly cheap .
The cory cats were unreal cheap . However I have heard what you just noted from others about parasites in my case all are great.

I do think they should use UV on their system one big UV clears water fights parasites.

UV won't help with most internal parasites (like camallanus) if the particular fish already comes in with it...either way, I don't think they are doing that any time soon. I just find their prices on cichlids pretty high, and the fact that I can't observe them from the side like at a regular LFS is something I really don't like.

I agree with you . Mine are for outside ponds and didnt get Africans but if they were for inside tanks would go with breeder or NON chain type pet stores as would want to see the fish close up in tank.
Their guppies are fantastic as those I did add to inside tank but your right buying Africans for tank from vats isnt a good idea .
as a whole pet stores suck in Miami for fish selection in long Island NY alone the selection was huge here its terrible

Couldn't agree more. There's maybe 2 or 3 places that have a decent selection, and that doesn't necessarily mean the fish are healthy
