over aeration cause pH to raise??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know it makes soft water hard, not to sure about ph though....

kinda true. extra bubbles can form on there fishes gills and cause hemorrhages in the capillaries of the gills, witch can kill the fish.

this is true to.

How does that work?
How does it make soft water hard? What's going in, or coming out?
How much is enough to cause this?
My snails would love it.

I believe the O2 drives off the cO2 to cause this...It is not good for plants just so you know...Oxygen is soft, and carbon dioxide is hard....

well, i dont think i have any CO2 in my tank to start with, since im going BB and no decor at all.

and im planning to place 4 large sponge filter and a eheim 2217 in a 70 tall tank.
is that too much aeration? im basically doing it, not only for filtration purpose, but aslo cosmetic as well.

If you sit in a chair and breathe as rapidly as possible (hyperventilate), your blood pH will increase...ie., your blood will become more alkaline. This is because you are blowing off more CO2. In solution (blood or aquarium water), CO2 + H2O will form carbonic acid. Increasing the circulation of your aquarium water could, conceivably, mimic rapid breathing, causing more CO2 to be released and hence, the pH should increase somewhat. Although, this may only be a negligible change. This increase in pH has essentially nothing to do with water hardness, however.
