over filtered?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
consider building a wet/dry sump filter yourself. for less the cost of a new canister you can build a great filter for thta 180 gallon. Yhere are lots of threads on this subject in the Do It Yourself forum.

How does a Magnum 350 and a Eheim 2217 sound. I am only 14 and i can't really afford to spend tons of money. As i said i already have the Magnum 350 on my 40 gal so i can really only afford another canister for the 180 gal that i am getting soon. I will look into the Eheim 2217. Thanks for the help guys.

First we need to know what you are stocking the tank with.

14 huh? Perfect.

Have you concidered a Wet/Dry filter system for the 180g?

Can't beat the price, and you can make it yourself.

OOPS, Bderick67 beat me to that one.(I gotta type faster)

Keep us posted,

no such thing as over filtering

Hypethetically;
How about an AC110 on my 5 gallon betta tank?

Real sitsuation;
85 gallon tank, bare bottom stocked with 8 discus and 12-15 cardinal tertas. Filter is Emp 400. Water is changed at 30 gallons twice a week. Water params are 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and 5-10ppm with nitrates and the tank is spotless. Adding another fitler will do nothing to improve the water conditions on this tank.

There is a point where you can over filter a tank, most of the time the effect on the tank is minimal but the cost is not effective.

I also run a Magnum 350 with Bio max in it and on the discharge I have a 25W UV. My main filter is a wet – dry Sump. All this runs my over stocked 125 Gal. Water crystal clear all the time.
